the 15th Annual Asian Lunar New Year Festival, the “Year
of the Rabbit” on the Chinese calendar,
which will be celebrated this year on Saturday, February 5th, from 10 am
– 5pm at the offices of Southern News Group located at 11122 Bellaire
Blvd. (between Wilcrest and Boone Road).
The Lunar New Year Festival this year will have a distinct “international flavor” and will begin with a “kickoff” announcement of the First Annual “Miss International” beauty competition to be held in July of 2011.
Invited guests and dignitaries include political and civic leaders and dignitaries and will include several counsel generals representing many counties of the world. A representative group of international beauties highlighting the “Miss International” beauty competition later in the year will also be in attendance.
This year, the festival will be accented by the participation of 10 chefs from local restaurants in a rousing “iron chef” level of culinary competition. Chinese, Thai, Korean and other countries will attend come and demonstrate a wide range of cooking skills and recipes. Memorial Hospital System will participate and offer healthcare tests and information. Representatives of the Houston Rockets (Rockets Power Dance) and Houston Dynamo will also participate in the festivities. Entertainment like Shaolin Kung-Fu, martial art, ethnic dances, Lion and Dragon dances, ethic singing etc., along with a wide range of delicious Asian cuisine will be available.
Each year, the colorful event attracts a large number of people from many ethnic groups and with the announcement of the “Miss International” beauty competition, the 2011 Asian Lunar New Year Festival promises to attract an even wider range of cultural and ethnic participation.
