Acne and Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been continuously developing for
the last 3000 years.
While medicine in the West blames bacteria, germs, viruses and the
like for diseases and illnesses, Chinese Medicine works in a
completely different way.
Nature, health and well-being are encompassed by the two equal
forces of Yin (Female) and Yan (Male). From these there stems
certain other ideas. One idea is the fact that the blame for
diseases and illnesses can be placed on six of the external
environmental elements, namely, wind, cold, summer heat, dampness,
dryness and fire.
By having ailments arise in the human body, the balance of Yin and
Yan is upset. Chinese Medicine seeks to bring healing to the body,
and therefore restore the balance.
Regarding acne, Western medicine explains that it is caused by the
plugging of the sebaceous follicles due to the over-production of
sebum, which leads to consequences that give the final spotty
appearance of the affected area.
Chinese Medicine goes deeper with the explanation, tracing the cause
back as far as the environmental elements mentioned above. It claims
the cause is Heat and Damp Heat, and employs just one of a few
techniques to counter attack these, which involves cooling the
blood.
Where traditional medicine applies antibiotics, ointments, cortisone
injections, skin peeling, ultraviolet light and freezing, Chinese
Medicine applies the practices of acupuncture, prescribing herbal
formulas, nutrition and more. It claims that on the successful
restoration of the balance of Yin and Yan, the former sufferer will
benefit from more focused thinking, increased energy, greater sense
of well-being, emotional stability, resolved digestive pain, better
sleep and resolved gynecological problems.
Suggested foods regarding nutrition for acne include cucumber,
carrots, celery, squash, lettuce and potato. Drinking plenty of
water is also highly recommended.
