Austin News >> Austin Chinatown Center Opens for Business
10/16/2006 Austin- Austin’s newest landmark, the first Chinatown Center in Central Texas is open for business.
Visitors will find M.T. Supermarket, the largest Central Texas Asian supermarket, a variety of authentic Asian cuisine restaurants, jewelry stores, the Austin Asian American Chamber of Commerce and over 40 other retail shops in the 180,000 square feet of retail space, which was developed by Tan International Group.
Inside M.T. Supermarket you'll find shoppers, food and every thing else you'd expect to find in a grocery store. But on closer inspection, you'll begin to notice the difference.
“Before Austin’s Chinatown Center, people had to travel to Houston or Dallas for a true Asian experience, whether they were looking for dining, shopping or entertainment,” Alex Tan, the developer of Chinatown, says. “This is also a great addition to Austin for the economy. We will soon have over 300 people employed at the center.”
