4/23/2008 HOUSTON – Fresh off the success of its Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park, the Art Colony Association is accepting artists’ applications for Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, set for October 18-19, 2008. Deadline for entries for the fine, juried art show is Friday, May 2, 2008.
The jury for the festive outdoor gallery accepts 300 fine artists from Houston and around the world. Bayou City Art Festival ranks among the Top 10 favorite art festivals in the U.S. according to AmericanStyle Magazine.

This year’s Festival coincides with the international convention of the Society of American Travel Writers in Houston. The Festival, located in and around City Hall/Hermann Square on Walker, Bagby and McKinney Street as well as Sam Houston Park, will be offered as an optional day trip for travel writers attending the convention.

To apply to the Festival, artists must submit their profile and upload their images online through the Zapplication application process. The application is available on the Bayou City Art Festival web site, www.bayoucityartfestival.com , where the red and pink “AI”/Artist Information button is linked to Zapplication.

Bayou City Art Festival Downtown will offer 19 media formats: clay, drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and wood.

The City of Houston and Houston Parks & Recreation Department, Budweiser Select, Sweet Leaf Tea, and KTRK-TV are among the Festival sponsors. The Festival is funded in part by grants from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

Over the past 37 years, the Bayou City Art Festivals, a 501c(3) organization, has raised more than $2.4 million for local nonprofit organizations.
