Chinatown Houston : Houston City Guide
The ins and outs, quirks and curiosities of a city can take many years to learn. If that doesn't quite fit into your time-frame, you're in luck. With these tips, you'll feel like a local in no time.
Texas U-turn — OK, so this practice may not be limited just to Houston, or even Texas, but anyone from up north might be shocked to witness how casually Houston drivers (especially those with trucks) flee bottleneck traffic jams by driving up and over the grassy median when they're available (to head back the other way) or, frankly, in any open spot. Be warned, though: just because everybody does it doesn't make it legal.
In or out? Hipster code for cool or geographic reference? You decide. If you hear people refer to a place as "inside the Loop" or "outside the Loop," they're referring to locations inside or outside of the 610 Highway Loop. What it really means, though, is that anything "inner city," defined by the loop and not the sprawling city limits, is hip, trendy and desirable. Dare to live (or work, eat, shop) "out of the Loop" and gosh, you may as well buy a minivan.
