2/23/2013-- A group of expats, having donned traditional
Chinese clothing, take part in a fair yesterday at Jinqiao community in
Shanghai's Pudong New Area to celebrate the Lantern Festival, also known
as Yuanxiao Festival. The festival, which falls today, occurs on the
15th day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and marks the end of the Spring
Festival. More than 3,000 people, including many expats living in the
area, attended the fair, which featured traditional celebrations such as
eating glutinous rice balls named after the festival, admiring lanterns
and solving riddles hanging from lantern displays.
