Chinese fixed and mobile telephone subscribers has hit 830 million, while 132
million use the Internet, the state-run Xinhua news agency has reported, citing
government statistics.
The number of phone subscribers is up by 11 percent compared with the end of
2005, according to statistics from the Ministry of Information Industry.
The country's telephone users are expected to exceed 900 million by the end of
2007, the official news agency said, citing the ministry.
Especially, the number of mobile subscribers is likely to keep growing rapidly
as more people begin to use different mobile numbers and the rural market for
mobile phones continues to open up, it said.
Meanwhile, the 132 million online users corresponds to a 19 percent rise from a
year ago.
The fast growth of public and business Internet users has pushed up the business
expansion of e-commerce, Internet advertising and online games in the country,
Xinhua said.
