5/4/2009-- China's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose in April for the fifth month in a row, up 1.1 points from March to 53.3. Since the index dipped below 50 last year as the economy slowed, this is the second consecutive month that the PMI ended above the important threshold of 50. A reading of above 50 indicates expansion in the manufacturing sector.
