Chinese Zodiac Signs

The 12 Chinese Zodiac Animal Sign are used for calculating the years. The 12 Chinese Zodiac Animal Sign constitutes the idea of the chain of time rather than the Western idea of time which is one- dimensional. The Chinese calendar is based on lunar cycles, whereas the Western calendar is based on solar cycles. The Chinese calendar starts from late January and early February.

The Chinese people do not follow this religiously though it is seen that these 12
Chinese Zodiac Animal Sign are required during a social event. When someone wants to know the age of another person he or she simply asks for his/her animal sign.

According to to Chinese legend it was believed that these 12 animals started fighting with each other one day regarding who will be the head of the cyclical years. Since the Gods had to decide who will be the head of the cyclical years, they said that whoever will go to the opposite bank of the river first would be claimed as the head while the rest of the animals would get their years in relation to when they complete racing.
