Chinatown Adds the Largest Chinese-American Supermarket in Houston

6/3/2006 Houston, TX -- Golden Foods Supermarket opened for business back on May 24th. This 40,000 square foot store offers a large variety of Asian produce, seafood, meat, frozen products and canned foods at low prices. The store is conveniently located at the heart of the Houston Chinatown in Southwest Houston at the Northeast corner of Beltway 8 and Bellaire in Sterling Plaza. Unlike other Asian grocery stores around town, Golden Foods Supermarket will be open 7 days a week for your shopping convenience from 7am until 11pm.

The owner of Golden Foods Supermarket, Mr. Clement Yeng, has been in the grocery business since 1982. He opened George 99 Supermarket (now Welcome Food Center) in 1986 and sold it in 1989. In 1990 Mr. Yeng opened Golden Star Trading (G.S.T.), a wholesale business for dry and canned foods. Golden Star Trading is now the second largest oriental foods importer in the Southwestern United States, and currently supplies over 300 oriental grocery stores in the Gulf Coast region. In addition, Golden Star Trading also carries it’s own product line under the G.S.T. private label. Mr. Yeng hopes to build on the success of Golden Star Trading with the opening of Golden Foods Supermarket, which together will bring high quality products at lower prices to the community.

At Golden Foods Supermarket, shoppers will enjoy the complete shopping experience. Brightly colored banners help shoppers to navigate through the twenty-four aisles of fresh produce, canned and dry goods and frozen food products. GFS also offers full-service meat and seafood counters. Those who seek fresh, ready-made meals should visit the in-house BBQ parlor where Houston’s best Chinese BBQ chef will prepare freshly roasted duck, chicken, char-siu and other authentic Chinese delicacies. Affordable lunch and dinner bento boxes are also available for shoppers to enjoy in the store or to take home.
