2/8/2007 Houston--The Chinese Community Center is offering Income Tax Assistance from February 3 to April 14, every Saturday from 1:00 – 5:00, free of charge.

“Our volunteers will be here to help those in the community who are struggling with their taxes,” said Margaret Chang, employment program assistant, Chinese Community Center.

To qualify to receive the free tax preparation assistance requires those interested to be a US Citizen, a permanent resident, and their total household income is less than $50,000.

The US tax forms volunteers will assist preparing are 1040EZ, 1040A with Sch 1, 2, 3, & EIC, 1040 with Sch A, B, C-EZ, D, EIC, R & SE.

Those interested in receiving assistance with their taxes, will need to bring last years tax return, proof of income such as a paycheck stub or a voided direct deposit slip or retirement forms.

“Also, if deductions will be itemized, such as medical bills, children’s tuition fees, interest on mortgage loans or others, please bring these items with you,” Chang said.

Chang added, “It is also important for each person in the family to bring their social security card.”
