9/1/2006 Houston - Three weeks ago, gas prices in East Texas and Houston were galling — nudging the $3 a gallon mark.
This week, gas prices in East Texas have gone from galling to falling — as low as $2.39 a gallon at one outpost along U.S. 59 between Lufkin and Houston. The average price of gasoline in Houston is now $2.65.

Nationwide, the average is just above $2.80, but with summer ending, you should see gas prices continue to drop – as long as there aren’t any major hiccups in production. Some experts say that prices may eventually drop to the two dollar mark by year’s end. When you adjust the average price of gas by considering inflation over the years, at two dollars per gallon, we’re in pretty good shape.
