Living Green, Being Healthier

Do you want to help save our environment from the dangers currently destroying it, and in the process learn to live eco-friendly healthy life, too!

Here are 10 Easy Tips on How You Can Help Right Now:

Be a Bag Lady - There are a few things you can do here. You can buy reusable grocery bags, reuse the plastic and paper bags you already have at home, use old totes or beach bags. So you always have something with you, leave some in the trunk of your car (so if you're anything like me, you don't have to rely on your memory...lol).

Clean Green - There are so many harsh chemicals in most cleaning products. You are breathing in those chemicals and then pouring them down your drain. However, there are many companies that are jumping on the "green" bandwagon. Clorox has a new "clean green" all-purpose cleaner in stores. And then there are companies such as Shaklee who also have natural products. And, of course, you can also make your own non-toxic cleaning kit, which are readily available online, with products such as baking soda and vinegar.

Eat Organic - Buying organic food locally saves a lot of resources and is just simply healthier for you. So many chemicals are dumped on produce. Do you want that in your body? I know everyone thinks they are "so expensive" but it doesn't have to be. In 10 easy and affordable steps, YOU can be living a more natural and organic lifestyle.

Buy Local - Try to go to the nearest farmer's market in your community for all your produce. The farther away your food comes from, the more fuel and resources are needed to transport them.

Eco-Friendly Light Bulbs - Change your light bulbs. Eco-friendly bulbs are everywhere now, Wal-Mart, your local grocery store, etc. They last a lot longer and using just one will save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes for a year!

Your Car - Make sure you get your car tuned-up regularly and properly. A properly tuned up engine will get between 6 and 20% high mpg. There are also hybrids cars. Although they are more expensive, I believe that as time goes on, they will become more common and therefore, more affordable.

Exercise - If you can run errands around town by walking or taking your bike, you are getting 2 benefits. You are helping the environment and your health at the same time.

Clothes - Eco-friendly clothing is popping up in all the malls these days. Materials such as organic cottons and bamboo are good for the environment. Eco fibres and organic textiles are biodegradable over time and they don't give off harmful toxins that commercial cotton usually does. They also do not require any pesticides or chemicals. So check your local stores, malls and online for eco-friendly clothing.

Naturally Beautiful - Again, most of our cosmetics and every day products, such as shampoos, soaps, and lotions, have dangerous chemicals in them. Try to opt for products made of natural ingredients. These are also popping up in a lot of our local stores and malls. And you can also purchase them online.

Help - There is a lot you can do to help our environment, even if it's just online or writing a letter to people in power to let them know you care and want to make a difference.

There are many other ways to help protect the environment, but these are 10 easy steps you can take right now! Don't forget about eating organic to be healthier!

You can also talk to others: your friends, family, and schools to spread the word. It just takes one person, one family and one community to start making a difference.
