3/3/2009 Taipei, Taiwan-- Seven guests
were killed, six burned alive, in a predawn fire that gutted an old
hotel in the populous historic east Taipei district of Dadaozheng
yesterday. Three were young Malaysian women visiting Taipei.
Another hotel guest, jumping off the veranda on the fifth floor of Hotel Snow White in an attempt to escape the fire, was seriously wounded.
Firemen rushed to the scene five minutes after the fire had broken out on the landing of a stairway to the second floor of the 35-year-old hotel on busy Taiyuan Road, where altogether 22 guests were staying overnight.
