Houston Community News >> Joy Luck Club Performance in Houston
4/3/2007 Houston - The Asian
Pacific American Heritage Association and Nova Arts Project are delighted to
announce a collaborative endeavor to produce a multimedia theatrical adaptation
of Amy Tan’s The Joy Luck Club.
In line with the vision of the NEA’s Big Read initiative, this project aims to
revitalize the role of literature (specifically, this novel) in American popular
culture through the theatrical media. The production of The Joy Luck Club will
intertwine aesthetic elements heavily influenced by the
Chinese culture, including dance and
live music.
The dancers will be provided by Dance of Asian America, presenting a unique,
high-caliber collaboration of distinguished international, national, and local
artists presenting Chinese traditional dances juxtaposed with modern
choreographic techniques. The music will be arranged by Marlon Chen of the
Maggini String Orchestra, named the official orchestra of this year’s Houston
International Festival celebrating China!
May 18th-20th, 8pm. Visit http://www.joyluckclub.eventbrite.com/ for more info.
