Houston Community News >> McDonald Outfitted with Feng Shui Design

3/1/2008 LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- A McDonald's in Los Angeles has been drastically remodeled with the Chinese practice of feng shui as its inspiration, it was reported.

The restaurant features curved walls, distinctive tile angles, earth toned paint colors and two waterfalls which are meant to a create harmonious atmosphere, The New York Times reported Sunday.

"We wanted to make the restaurant a little bit more of a destination. It's not so much decor as a theme, our theme being we want this to be a harmonic, peaceful place for people to be," Southern California McDonald's franchisee Bryan Carmack said.

The new take on encouraging sit-in fast food customers has reportedly become a goal of many business owners.

The restaurant also has a McCafe, which sells McDonald's coffee at sophisticated coffee shop prices, the Times reported.

"A lot of things are subliminal. Balance in life, that's what you want," said Brenda Clifford of JBI, a firm that designed several themed McDonald's.
