1/15/2012 Houston-- The seventh season of the popular Movies Houstonians Love film series continues this month, featuring Y. Ping Sun’s favorite film, Aftershock (Tangshan dadizhen) (directed by Xiaogang Feng, China, 2010, 135 min., in Mandarin with English subtitles), at the Brown Auditorium Theater of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The film will screen one night only, on Monday, January 30 at 7 p.m. Y. Ping Sun, Rice University Representative, will introduce the screening.

Aftershock is an epic story of a family separated as a result of the great Tangshan earthquake of 1976, which claimed 255,000 lives, injured 160,000, and destroyed 650,000 Chinese homes. Seven-year-old twins are trapped beneath the rubble, prompting rescue workers to believe that freeing one child will most likely kill the other. The siblings’ mother makes the agonizing choice to save her son, not knowing that her daughter witnesses the decision and miraculously survives.
