Houston Community News >> Chinese New Year Greetings

2/6/2008--  "I am pleased to celebrate the Lunar New Year with Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) across the nation.

"As this new year, the
Year of the Rat, commences, I would like to salute the leaders and pioneers that have brought to our attention the history and contributions of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Because of their diligence, the diversity and respect our country is known for around the world has motivated the next generation of supporters and advocates for civil rights.

"One of the many great facets of the City of San Francisco, which I have had the privilege of representing in Congress for more than 20 years, is its strong AAPI community and how it has grown and influenced our City - with a range of ethnicities, cultures, and languages. I am also proud to see the accomplishments of a diverse AAPI community whose ideas blend together with the ideals of our nation. It is a true testament to how the United States embraces and recognizes that the beauty is in the mix.

"As the Asian American and Pacific Islander community gathers with family and friends to rejoice in new beginnings and observe treasured traditions this Lunar New Year, I look forward to what we can do together to move this country in a New Direction."
