breeders in the southern Chinese city of Chengdu are planning to produce
souvenirs from panda excrement, the Chengdu Daily reported on Monday.
"The souvenirs don't stink," assured the department manager Huang Xiangming.
Some of the gift articles will, however, be perfumed with bamboo aroma.
The breeding centre is following the business idea of the Chiang Mai Zoo in
Thailand.
The Chengdu breeders annually have to deal with a minimum of 200 tons of Panda
dung, from which environmentally friendly paper can be produced as the basis of
further products.
"Because of their fibre-rich diet, panda dung is the ideal raw material to
produce paper," said Huang.
