Two Chinese language publications, Commercial Times and Apple Daily, reported Tuesday Asustek Computer has started the shipments of the consoles in small volumes from early July. The reports added that Asustek Computer was given 200,000 component sets in June and the company is on schedule to produce that many units and send them to Sony. It is to get a total of four million units as a first consignment and monthly shipments will start at 200,000 units, rising to 2 million in October.

The reports also said another Taiwanese company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd -- registered as Foxconn Electronics -- will also make the PS3 consoles for Sony.

The papers said Sony is likely place orders for PS3-use Wi-Fi module with Taiwanese contract suppliers, CyberTAN Technology being the front runner.

Asustek Computer declined to comment on the report. Sony is planning debut of PS3 on 11 November in Japan and on 17 November in Australia, Europe, the U.S. and other countries. It has promised to have 2 million consoles available during the launch.
