1/24/2009 HOUSTON – Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS), the world’s largest office products company, today announced it will celebrate the opening of its fourth Houston store with a $15,000 donation from Staples Foundation for Learning to I Have a Dream - Houston.

On Mon., Jan. 26, city elected officials, business and community leaders, and area residents will gather at the new Staples store, located at 8225 S. Gessner Rd Suite A, to officially welcome the new neighbor into the southwest Houston community of Sharpstown.

At noon, Houston City Council Member M.J. Khan and Galleria Chamber of Commerce President Don Sweat will join store General Manager Dave Leach in a unique ribbon-shredding ceremony to officially open the new Staples store. Dolores Valero, constituent aide for State Rep. Scott Hochberg (D, 137); Sharpstown Civic Association president Milton Winnebrenner; and members of the Galleria Chamber of Commerce, also are expected to attend.

The store’s opening marks the beginning of Staples’ 2009 expansion plans in the Houston market. The Sharpstown location will be ideal for area small businesses and residents, and will serve of their office supplies, technology services and printing needs.

“We’re opening more stores in convenient locations throughout Houston to make it easy for small businesses and all Houstonians to get the products they need right in their neighborhood,” said Eric Donihoo, Staples district manager. “In addition to serving businesses, we’re committed to supporting charitable endeavors benefiting disadvantaged youth that make a difference in each and every community where we operate.”

Staples Foundation for Learning, the charitable arm of Staples, Inc., will present a $15,000 grant donation to I Have a Dream - Houston at the official opening of Staples’ new store located at 8225 S. Gessner Rd Suite A. The grant will support the organization’s mentoring program, which provides inner-city youth with long-term mentoring to improve academic performance and foster character development.

Adding More Stores for Greater Customer Convenience
The new Staples store opened to the public on Dec. 13, 2008 and will celebrate its official grand opening on Jan. 26. Regular hours are Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sun. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The store each will employ approximately 20 full- and part-time associates.

The new 20,500-square-foot store in southwest Houston is designed to make it easy for small business and home office customers to shop for office products and services.
