Taiwan
rang in the new year with a massive bash at the foot of the Taipei 101
skyscraper, which has four days to go as the world's tallest building.
The 508-metre structure will lose that title to the Burj Dubai, more
than 800 meters tall, when the latter opens on January 4.
An estimated half a million people gathered at the base of the Taipei
landmark to watch performances while waiting for the fireworks display
to be launched from the top of the building.
