Houston Community News >> Taiwan Limits Number of Wii Consoles Brought In
3/20/2007- TAIPEI, Taiwan,
March 20 The number of Nintendo Wii consoles people can take into Taiwan is
limited to two because the machine interferes with radio frequencies, a
regulator said.
The National Communications Commission said people bringing more than two Wiis
onto the island will need certification labels attached to the consoles and must
apply for a permit, the China Post said Tuesday. Howard Shyr of the NCC said a
Wii can interfere with radio frequencies when used so regulation is necessary.
The NCC said original Wiis will be passed through customs because the company
already met government certification requirements. Newer versions of consoles
bought in countries other than the United States or Japan must be kept at
customs for inspection.
Distribution of the physically interactive console in the Taiwanese market has
not been scheduled.
