Austin News >> UT Longhorns Quarterback Snead to Transfer Along with Two Other Texas Players

12/1/2006 Austin- Texas Longhorns freshman quarterback Jevan Snead announced his intentions on Friday to transfer to another school.

Snead, who replaced the injured Colt McCoy in a 45-42 loss at Kansas State on November 11, may have been in line to play, at least some, in a bowl game for Texas. McCoy suffered a pinched nerve in his neck in a 12-7 loss to Texas A&M last week, but since Snead has decided to leave the team immediately, he won't be available for a bowl game.

"Texas is a great place to be. I just think that for me to reach my goal of being a starting quarterback, I need to go somewhere else," Snead said. "I'm going to miss all of my teammates, coaches and the great fans, but I will always be proud of my time with the Longhorns."

Snead completed 26-of-49 passes for 371 yards with a pair of touchdowns and two interceptions this season. He also rushed for 87 yards and a TD. During the Kansas State game, Snead threw for 190 yards and a score.

Because of Snead's departure, senior walk-on Matt McCoy will likely step into the backup role for Colt McCoy. The two aren't related.

Also announcing their intentions to transfer were sophomore defensive end Chris Brown and sophomore offensive tackle Greg Dolan.
