1/20/2012 Houston-- On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, with
the passing of Yuki Rogers, the entire community lost a friend and
tireless worker for others who for many years had dedicated her life to
so many good causes throughout the Houston area.
Yuki was a perfect example of a new kind of philanthropist in America who choose to get deeply involved in causes they support, rather than simply writing a check. She was experienced in fund raising for many charitable groups and personally got involved in the planning and execution of many fund-raising events, seeing them through from beginning to end. She was philanthropic in both her deeds and in her spirit. Her volunteerism is legendary in Houston's non-profit circles.
Always striving to help others, Yuki served as the president, vice president, and board member for over a dozen organizations, including the International Trade Center where she was the Executive Director, the Houston Symphony, Asia Society, Asian Chamber of Commerce, Asian Pacific American Heritage Association, Dance of Asian America, Japan America Society, Japan Greater Houston of Association, Ikebana International, Asian America Family Service, and International Trade Mission Center, just to name a few. Over the years, Yuki received numerous awards for her charity works in the Houston community. She also served as a board member of numerous organizations.
Immediately prior to her death, Yuki was the Executive Director of the International Trade Center in southwest Houston where she had been active in event planning and business development for the center. She had recently spearheaded the Trade Center's Inaugural Grand Ball, The Winter White Night, on Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Galleria Hotel. The event was an unparalleled success due largely to the efforts of Yuki and her team at the International Trade Center.
A memorial service for Yuki has been planned for Saturday, January 21st from 2PM until 5PM at the HCC West Loop Campus, 5601 W. Loop South at Fournace. A website has also been created in Yuki's honor at www.yukirogers.com
Additionally, a fund has been set up in Yuki's name and will be managed by the Asian American Family Services office in Houston. They are located at 9440 Bellaire Blvd. # 228 Houston, TX 77036-4560, and can be contacted at (713) 600-9400.
