Luminations: A Winter Celebration

Trail of Lights and Zilker Christmas Tree
Location: Zilker Park.
In yet another Austin tradition, the month-long Zilker Park Trail of Lights festival begins with lighting of the Zilker Christmas Tree on December 3. The pedestrian Trail of Lights, featuring live music and Santa visits, transforms a mile-long stretch of Zilker Park, located at 2100 Barton Springs Rd., into a twinkling wonderland from December 11-31. A grand parade kicks off the season on December 10 at 5:30 p.m. Throughout the season, guests can park at Zilker Park for $8, or take the shuttle from the state garages located at 14th and Trinity Streets. Shuttles run from 5:45-10:45 p.m.; a round-trip ticket costs $2. Event ID: 12/31

The Santaland Diaries
The comedy tells the real-life story of Sedaris' tour of duty as the elf Crumpet, and what it takes to juggle tots and tottering Santas during a painfully festive time of the year. Radical NY!
The Austin Museum of Art presents a landmark exhibition illuminating two transformative periods in New York City. New York is more than just a location, it’s an attitude—and, that attitude forever changed the face of American art and culture. Radical NY! is a two-part exhibition presenting The Downtown Show: The New York Art Scene, 1974-1984 and Abstract Expressionism: 1940s-1960s opening November 18, 2006 with works by over 200 groundbreaking artists including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Cindy Sherman, and hundreds of paintings, sculptures, drawings, videos, and photographs. Luca Cambiaso
Luca Cambiaso is known as the first great "modern" artist in Genoa. His works inspired innovation and influence throughout Italy in the early 18th century. Norman Mailer Takes On America
Drawing on the recently acquired Norman Mailer archive, the exhibition sets the career of Norman Mailer in this cultural context and trace the central role he has played in our awareness and understanding of what Morris Dickstein calls the "shocks of history, politics, and contemporary life" that reshaped the last half of the twentieth century and continue to unsettle the twenty-first.
