Year of the Ox Celebration at Austin’s Chinatown Center. This annual celebration in North Austin carries on for two days showcasing Austin’s very own incredible talents and a grand time for the entire family.  The free public festival kicks off with the Texas Dragon and Lion Dance Team and Summit Dragon Dance celebrating with firecrackers at the Chinatown Center pagoda. Love of China. Begin the Chinese New Year with good karma and cultural heritage and dancers from the Love of China School of Chinese Dance.  Ages 4-18, these talented youth demonstrate traditional dance and costumes as seemingly weightless silk ribbons weave through the air around them.  Delight in their poise and confidence as you welcome the New Year. Carnaval Brasileiro. Flamboyant costumes, Brazilian samba music, and the uninhibited, spirited atmosphere have made Austin's Carnaval one of the biggest such festivals outside of Brazil. Location: Palmer Events Center.

The People's Gallery at City Hall
The 2008 exhibition of the People's Gallery at City Hall features over 100 artworks on loan from Austin artists, galleries and museums. Location: City Hall, 301 W. Second Street. Call 512-974-9313 for more info. Event ID:1/30/09

Bat Watching
The 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that live beneath the Congress Avenue Bridge take flight in a mass exodus each night at dusk. Located at Congress Ave. & Cesar Chavez St. Austin, TX 78704.
