Chanticleer. America’s top all-male professional choir Chanticleer gives its signature sound to “Wondrous Free,” a concert of all-American music. Demonstrating the diversity of song in America, the program will range from early American hymns and shape-note singing by William Billings and Dudley Buck, to Mexican Baroque pieces by composers Juan de Leinas and Juan Gutierrez de Padilla, European madrigals, American folk songs and a newly commissioned American work. Last year’s Austin appearance sold out, so reserve early. Location:First Presbyterian Church of Austin, 8001 Mesa Drive.
Austin Civic Orchestra’s Fall Concert. The 2008-2009 Austin Civic Orchestra season promises to be very exciting, eclectic, and engaging, beginning with the first concert of the year. The "By Request!" Program will highlight Respighi's “The Pines of Rome” which was the winning selection voted on by the Orchestra membership. Location: Reagan High School; 7104 Berkman Drive.
Fun Fun Fun Fest. This annual two day music festival features live music and cool bands that showcase Austin's diverse musical landscape. Location: Waterloo Park. Event ID: 11/9
Trouble Puppet Theater Company Presents "Frankenstein". The mad doctors of Trouble Puppet Theater Company bring inanimate matter to life through the forbidden science of puppetry in this version of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. A classically spooky but radically weird adaptation by Connor Hopkins, with songs sung by corpses, feminist Gypsies, plenty of fire, electricity, blood and goo. Halloween fun, with a brain (several, in fact). While some of Trouble Puppet shows are family friendly, this is not one of them.
