Houston Community News >> Tai Chi Helps With Tension Headaches
4/27/2007 LOS ANGELES-- Tai Chi,
a traditional Chinese low-impact mind-body exercise, provided significant health
benefits for U.S. adults suffering from tension headaches.
Patients who participated in a 15-week Tai Chi
program were helped not only with headache pain, but also perceived improvement
in other areas, reporting increased energy, emotional well-being, social
functioning and improved mental health, according to the study published in
Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
Ryan B. Abbott and Dr. Ka-Kit Hui, both of the Center for East-West Medicine at
the University of California at Los Angeles, say Tai Chi's emphasis on
relaxation, breathing and coordination may address stress, the underlying cause
of the pain associated with tension headaches.
