The Scene

A taste of Japanese interior deco complements the incredible Japanese food served here. There aren't many Japanese restaurants located in Chinatown. Hokkaido's presence brings a new face to the Asian scene.

The Food

Hokkaido serves up your traditional Japanese meal. From katsu don, which by the way tastes great, to sashimi and sushi. Other notable food include udon noodle, teriyaki steak, and your choice of 14 unique Japanese appetizers.

In the US it's hard to find an Asian restaurant where the food isn't the "Americanized" version rather than truly authentic. For those who has traveled to Asia and miss "real" Asian food, this is THE place. Outstanding service, friendly staff and every item on the menu is absolutely delicious. Although more reminiscent of the Japanese influence on Taiwanese food, it is definitely a must have when you visit Houston's Chinatown.

One of my favorite lunch spots. The food is consistently good and fresh and the service and friendliness of the staff is excellent. Daily specials really do change daily, and they're always very interesting combinations, tasty and well-presented. The sushi and sashimi are also fresh and delicious. Complimentary buffet-style miso soup, red bean soup, and hot tea make Hokkaido's relatively low price even better.

I love this place-- it's so relaxed, and the wait staff is very polite but never invasive. They let you dine at your own pace and order as you go with no problems. Ideal for cheap sushi, too-- that's why I come here! The FREE miso and red bean soups are a huge plus, too!

The quality of the sushi in proportion to it's price is superb. If you are looking for a non crowded informal Japanese restaurant with polite service, this is your best bet. While the meals and appetizers are a bit average, the sushi makes up for it. Complimentary miso and red bean soup.
