Jungle Cafe & Pātisserie

ChinatownConnection Editorial Profile

The Scene

A very trendy place where people hang out, Jungle Cafe caters to everyone who loves bubble tea and pastries. The interior deco is perfectly blended in with a modern/fusion theme. The cakes and pastries next to the cashier will catch everyone's attention.

The Food

This is not a place to have a meal. It is a place to drink tapioca tea, smoothie, or coffee. It is a place to eat deliciously baked pastries. It is a place to buy artfully crafted cakes for all occasions such as weddings and birthdays.

Heads Up

This is a great place to hang out with friends or bring a date.

I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW RUDE THE STAFF IS AT THE DUN WONG LOCATION! Just now, at 7:55pm, I went to buy Tiramasu for my best friend's birthday and specifically went to this location to get it. Their website shows that they close at 8pm. AS I WAS WALKING TO THE DOOR, a woman employee looked me in the eyes as she locked the door, five minutes before closing!! I quickly ran to the door, pointed to my watch, mouthed "please?" and she just kept fiercely shaking her head "NO". I could not believe how rude she was. You would think that a business would want to make and keep a good rapport with customers, and especially during their business hours!! I was recommended to come to this location, but am VERY disappointed with the lack of service and how the employee just did not care whatsoever. I will NOT be recommending this cafe to anyone.

This was one of the best cakes I have had. It was not too sweet nor too bland. It was just perfect.

I agree w/ a few other reviews that the new location definitely does not have a friendly vibe. It looks too fancy now...w/ a huge open space for nothing. When I walked in to pick up my cake order, 2 people walked out from the back looking as if they were taking a nap. When I asked for recommendations about some of the different pastries, the guy's answer was, "I don't know, I don't eat them." The cakes are expensive, but presentation is pretty. The box that it comes in is my favorite thing before the taste of their cakes. Seems like the quality has gone down.

I miss the old location because it had a comfortable feel. The new location has an uptight vibe.. extra space to wonder what could've been the plan there like there should be something there.

I still would go because of the Mango Moose Cake, my favorite. They have some good selections, too. The designs of the cakes are simple but it has life to it. Not just BLAH. I still think they put effort in making each one. Pricey.. but that's probably how I would price them coz of the detail they put into it. It's art.

Although I've never been to the old location nor the new one, all the cakes that I've tasted in this past year from my friends' birthday were bought from Jungle Cafe. These cakes sure have the looks, but definitely not the taste for me. The cake sometimes was too sweet, sometimes it just don't have any taste to it. On top of that, all the cakes are really small, compared to the huge price tag on it. All I had to say was, even cakes at a Kroger's or HEB might even taste better.

My wife and I have been going to Jungle Cafe for many years and we had our second visit to the new location. Unfortunately, brings have severely gone down hill still Jungle Cafe has moved to the new location in Dun Huang Plaza. The servers at the counter used to be courteous and attentive when taking custom orders, the ones at the new location rude and not knowledgeable of the menu. One server was very inflexible and even lied when my wife ordered the Christmas cake. When we picked up the cake, there was a spelling error on the cake and we asked her to correct it. The girl at the counter told us that everyone in the kitchen was at lunch and could not fix it even though it was 3pm. In the old Jungle Cafe, there were tapioca drinks that were freshly prepared in front of us. Not so with the new Jungle Cafe. There were no sounds of blenders to be found. The selection of individual portion cakes was smaller than before. The individual cakes were smaller too, but the prices were higher. It is very disappointing to see that the new Jungle Cafe is not as friendly and charming as the old Jungle Cafe. My wife and I will be looking for a new bakery now as the old, charming Jungle Cafe is no more.

Absolutely love it! After eating the dark chocolate mousse cake at a friend's party I HAD to go there! Worth the drive from Katy! Since they where sold out of the big size dark chocolate, I tried 3 other cakes. All so delicious it was hard to decide! The staff was SUPER friendly!

I absolutely adore this place, from their cute decorations on their cakes to their selection of drinks. Their drinks and pastry are not too sweet either. I have never had bad customer service here, so I was surprised to read those reviews. I have been here many times and even buy many cakes here for special occasions and I have never had bad service.

The cakes here are beautiful. But there's not much that I could say for the staff. They could barely speak English. Its very difficult to run a business when you don't have at least one staff that could speak/understand English. They are rude, its pretty pricey.

Beautiful presentation; unique combinations and flavors. Staff were friendly-- no language barrier issues. They allowed me to use my debit card for an order under $20, so maybe policy has changed since previous reviews. No pressure to buy and no issues regarding prepay. Delicious cake! I recommend!

OMG! We LOVE this place! We went there for the first time last Saturday. I ordered the Mango Cheesecake and a Tiramatsu. They were both so delicious! I don't even like Tiramastu, but it was great! I'm having a birthday party this weekend and I'll be stopping by there tomorrow to order my cakes!

I like this little cafe. I ALWAYS go here to buy cakes for everyone in my family that has a birthday. they are a little pricey $30.68/cafe feed 8-12 people but they ARE WORTH IT. and I'm cheap too! The cakes are fancy and so yummy. And i am a tapioca lover. They have the best. good size cup. tapioca is soft and drink is yummy and milky and doesn't taste watered down. I think its like $3.25. I would so recommend going here if you're looking for a cake to impress someone. they have the cutest little designs.

I have been ordering cakes from Jungle Cafe since they've been open. Their cakes are beautiful and delicious! I have never had a problem with customer service other than a small language barrier. While reading the other reviews, I couldn't help but think that the unhappy customers might have just been a little difficult.

My coworker brought several cakes to our office that were leftover from his wedding. I had a mango-flavored cake that was so incredible I Googled this restaurant for prices, location, etc. I am disappointed to see the reviews about the customer service. I work in the Medical Center and live in Pearland... driving to this location is way out of my way; I am not sure the cake was so delicious that I will risk really bad service.

This place is horrible. Ordered a birthday cake, they pre-charged me for it. When I went to pick it up they lost my order and so made me buy another one saying that I could get a refund on my original later when the manager arrived. Went back and the staff was rude, they finally found my original cake and handed to me, they weren't going to give me a refund. I had to yell and argue with the manager for 30 minutes and he finally gave me my money back. Will never go to this place again.

I tried their birthday cake since their first birthday cake came out. By the time I keeping order the cake from Jungle, I found the cake contains more and more sugar and more less flavor. Hope they can develop their recipe and make the cake taste better.

I always go to jungle cafe to buy cakes. the employees that work over there it's really rude and with bad mood. one day I order a cake that is over $15 and then they told me that is you got the second one is going to be half price then I told them that no I don't want the second one and then seems like they are forcing me to buy it. at the end I said no. so when I am going to pay the cake I gave them my debit card cause I never carry cash out then they told me that I have to have minimum $20 to charge on my debit card. so I was so mad I just get the second cake and then I left there so unhappy. I think I will never ever go back to jungle cafe

They have a policy of making customer pay in advance even when you make your purchase at the Cafe. I had to pay for 2 dozens of pastry before they actually pack the stuff, and they later found out that they did not have all the pieces I wanted and refused to refund for the shortage. I can understand the pay in advance on pre-ordered items, but not when I actually placed the order at the cafe while they did not have the items. The person "in charge" was totally rude. I left my name and asked to have the owner contact me but so far no one has called back. Absolutely is rip-off policy.

I was very unhappy with the rude employees at jungle cafe. The prices were high and the staff treated me with no respect. There are lots of cute cafes and tea shops in town. Will never bother to waste my time going to jungle cafe again.
