Getting a Texas Driver's License

People with a valid driver's license who move to Texas from another state have 30 days to obtain a Texas driver's license. To apply, licensed applicants 18 and older must provide proof of identity, a Social Security number, proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance (if they own a vehicle). They must complete forms available at any Texas Driver License office, pay a fee, pass a vision exam and surrender their old license.

If they are unlicensed or have an expired out-of-state license, they must pass written and driving exams, as well as a vision test. There are additional requirements for drivers younger than 18.
