Horticulture Day at the Houston Zoo. Oct 10. The Houston Zoo opens its gates 90 minutes early at 7:30 a.m. allowing ticket holders to take advantage of the cooler weather to get the scoop about the Zoo’s landscape history and maintenance. 19th Annual Turkish Festival. 11am. Celebrate the culture of Turkey with the Turkish Festival. You'll have the chance to sample authentic Turkish food and pastries. Also, there will be Turkish beer and wine on hand or Turkish tea and coffee. There will be live local bands, belly dancers and folk dancers on hand to entertain. Waugh Bridge Bat Colony Pontoon Boat Tours. Visit Houston's newly discovered Mexican Free-tailed Bat Colony! Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of China's First Emperor. The Houston Museum of Natural Science is excited to present one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century, the tomb complex of China's First Emperor, Shi Huangdi, features thousands of terra cotta warriors that were intended to protect him throughout eternity. Where Clouds Disperse: Ink Paintings by Suh Se-ok. Over his 40-year career, Suh Se-ok has incorporated his traditional training with his Modernist sensibility to create dynamic works that embody his artistic vision. He has been especially transfixed by the figurative form and has continually explored and perfected it until it evolved into powerful formal gestures of simple lines that comprise his definitive pictorial vocabulary.
