Spectrum Dance Theater

Hot off the Broadway stage, “The Color Purple” choreographer Donald Byrd leads
the innovative Seattle-based Spectrum Dance Theater as its artistic director.
Having sold out his “Jazz Train” performance in 2001, Byrd returns to Houston
with a new company and a renewed vision. Spectrum Dance Theater seeks to make
contemporary dance accessible to all, from dance aficionados to those who have
never studied dance. Byrd has created more than 80 ballets and worked with dance
companies ranging from his former dance company DONALD BYRD/THE GROUP and Alvin
Ailey American Dance Theater, to classical companies such as the Concordanse in

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka

Family Fun Series
Inspired by his own childhood memories, Roald Dahl’s beloved chocolate fantasy
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” comes to life in the production “Willy Wonka.”
Follow Charlie as he encounters Oompa Loompas, a river of chocolate and the
Candy Man himself. This Kennedy Center IMAGINATION CELEBRATION production gives
everyone a golden ticket to experience the classic story live on-stage! With the
help of Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer/lyricist Leslie Bricusse, Roald
Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” is the ear-catching, eye-popping live musical the whole

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

UBS International Series
Celebrate the rich history and culture of Eastern Europe with the Hungarian
State Folk Ensemble as the 90-member Ensemble performs music and dance in
traditional costumes. A whirl of color, the group’s choreography is based on
authentic folk dances, some dating back hundreds of years. The extraordinary
folk music that inspired Liszt, Bartók and Kodály is performed live on-stage by
the Folk Orchestra and the Gipsy Orchestra, playing authentic Hungarian folk
